NASA’s New Horizons is helping us understand worlds at the edge of our solar system, by making the first reconnaissance of the dwarf planet Pluto.
Pluto is covered with four different kinds of ice.
As the dwarf planet moves around the sun every 248 years, these ices warm up and re-freeze in different ways. This moves glaciers around and may have even created ice volcanoes.
But ice is not the only thing shaping Pluto. The dwarf planet is being hit by nearby objects, at least once every several million years…
Many of us often get this feeling of being covered with ice… or hit by nearby objects and people.
